Thanks to the collective efforts of our union members, the legislature’s General Administration and Elections (GAE) Committee voted Raised Senate Bill (S.B.) 1157 out of committee on March 24, 2023. The bill would protect all OAG employees’ home addresses from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The success in getting the bill voted out of committee followed ACAAG President Joan Andrews’ testimony (in screenshot above) in support of the bill on March 6, 2023. Several AAGs also described the threats they have endured in the performance of their duties as AAGs.

Many of the agencies and state employees AAGs represent (i.e., Department of Correction, Department of Children and Families, Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Judicial Branch) have protected addresses and it is important that we do too.
